The Algorithm Doesn’t Know Every Hallway - AI in Succession Planning

When it comes to succession planning, talent management and organizational development, Bettina Graser, HR Director at LG Electronics Deutschland GmbH, has over two decades of experience. In “The Algorithm Doesn’t Know Every Hallway”, the main goal is to take a critical, practitioner’s look at AI in succession planning. We will look at two case studies and see how a model would have evaluated the succession planning versus an experienced HR Leader. What does gut feeling and AI have in common and where do they go on different paths. Artificial Intelligence and succession planning is based on historical promotion patterns, which can inherit and automate existing organizational bias. Using AI as a second opinion rather than a decision maker, auditing training data for bias, and preserving HR’s role as a critical check is crucial when using AI ethically and legally in Europe.

Building HR While the Plane is Flying – Inside HR's Role in a Global Carve-out

Few transformations challenge HR as profoundly as a global carve-out. Creating a standalone organization while ensuring uninterrupted business operations requires HR to redesign structures, leadership, culture, systems, and ways of working—all at the same time. This session offers an inside look at the realities behind such a transformation. Based on first-hand experience from a global carve-out involving more than 4,300 employees across 50+ legal entities, it goes beyond the success stories to explore the critical decisions, unexpected obstacles, competing priorities, and defining moments that shaped the journey. Rather than presenting another transformation framework, this session offers a candid perspective on HR's role in building a new company—revealing not only what worked, but also where assumptions were challenged, priorities shifted, and difficult trade-offs had to be made.

Mental Health: Main Resource for Performance, but Rarely Discussed in Business

In a working world that is characterized by constant change, high pressure to succeed and permanent availability, a powerful success factor is often overlooked: mental health. Although it has a significant influence on performance, personal behavior patterns, motivation and cooperation, mental health still remains an underestimated issue in many companies and also among the employees themselves. This inspiring lecture will show why mental health is not a "soft topic", but a central resource for sustainable performance, company success and personal satisfaction. Using a current case study and practical examples, participants will learn what typical mental health killers are and how they can promote resilience in the company.

Global Impact Through Local Expertise

Building a new global L&D department within a highly decentralized environment comes with both, opportunity and complexity. My key learning is clear: lasting Global impact can only be created, when local expertise and engagement are valued and when strong networks are built across the organization. For me, success in establishing a new unit within HR is not primarily about delivering structures and processes. It is about understanding the broader organizational context, shaping a future-ready culture, and enabling people and the organization to grow. Therefore all hands are needed - globally and locally! Join me on looking back on the single steps in my journey and discuss with me my main learnings.
